My Story

I first started working out in junior high. I had know idea what I was doing but remember seeing a few other guys who were getting pretty big lifting weights so I wanted to see if I could get results like they were getting. Now growing up I was always the skinny kid. So for me, lifting weights was a way to try and bulk up and honestly, just have a healthier look. My main motivation to work out was to look good rather than say I could bench a certain weight.

So I would try various routines off and on. I`d be consistent for a while then get discouraged because I wasn`t seeing the results I was hoping for. My biggest challenge was getting bigger. It wasn`t really until college that I started to make some progress. I had a friend in college who was a serious bodybuilder. He definitely looked the part. He had a very stocky build which makes more sense to me now after learning everything the Adonis Golden Ratio system has taught me. Also, I learned later that he had been taking some additional pills and `special` supplements to help him get as big as he did.

But I was starting to see success, especially in my chest. It sounded great (but so did all the other systems I tried), the marketing pages certainly were attractive and the before and after pictures all looked pretty stunning. But what ultimately helped me decide to give this a try is the focus on building muscles specific to what would look most attractive to your height/weight ratio. I`ll get into some more specifics later but as I`ve dived into this program there are a few things that I`ve discovered set this program apart. First, it`s not a one size fits all approach. All the other programs or DVD workouts, etc. I`ve tried treat everyone the same. This is the first time I`ve used a program that tailors the steps you take. The other thing that really stands out to me about this program is how much support there is. Some systems either have too little information while others have so much you don`t know where to begin. Now I`ll admit that there is a lot of information in this Adonis Golden Ratio program and it took me a little bit to wrap my head around how this approach works. But included in this program is a community forum what is both active and very helpful. Whether you`re a newbie just getting started and learning how to lift weights or you`ve been working out for a while there are plenty of people willing and happy to help.

I`m also impressed that the developers of the Adonis Golden Ratio system are constantly keeping up to date with the latest research and sharing the information with everyone. Many of the other systems or programs I`ve purchased are static. They don`t provide any new or additional information along the way. I think it`s helpful to see what it looks like once you become a member so I want to go over that next. The first thing I recommend checking out is the welcome video. They do a great job of taking you through all the different parts of the site and where to get started first. Although it`s tempting to jump in and start clicking around, I do highly recommend watching the intro video.

Program Selection

One of the things you`ll be doing early on is using their calculator to determine which program you should be starting with. The photo shows you that based on my weight and measurements I should start in Category 3. Now these can change as you go along so you may be in a different category as you progress through the program.

They have a complete list of all the different types of exercises listed in this program and then provide a `how-to` video to show you how it`s done. I really appreciate having this list as there is always the occasional exercise that I`m not as familiar with. So it`s nice to have a quick place to see what I need to do without having to hunt it down on YouTube or elsewhere.

Many of the videos provide verbal instruction but there are a few that don`t. It`s not a big deal but if you`re brand new to the world of lifting weights you may want to get some further instruction if needed. The forum is great for this as people are really responsive to helping everyone out.

As you can see from the photo, you have a list of different areas of the body that you may want an exercise for. Then on the right you have the videos listed in alphabetical order. I found it simple, easy and straightforward to use. You can also watch these videos on a mobile device so if you`re at the gym you can watch a quick `how-to` video to make sure you`re doing the exercise correctly.

Community Forum

The forum at Adonis Golden Ratio is truly one of the best features of this whole system. I`ve been a part of many different forums and it`s been a mixed bag. Some are filled with marketing and hype, others are people griping all the time, and then you have those forums that feels like it`s the blind leading the blind. I was surprised actually at how helpful everyone is. Honestly, it really adds to the motivation. You see all these great guys showing where they started when they joined the program and where they`re at now (a few months later) and it is literally jaw-dropping and shocking. After seeing a bunch of guys with their beer guts and scrawny guys transform into these ripped dudes, many of which look magazine worthy now I had all the motivation I needed to hop aboard this train.

In the forum, everyone is saying the same thing `if I can do this, you can do this` and it`s true. Between the program itself, and all the support in the forum you really have a game plan that works.

Then start going through the information and when you get stuck or have a question, try posting in the forum. You`ll start to get connected and it feels really cool to have all these guys who used to be where you are (just starting out) that can help keep you motivated to do this.

Contests happen every few months. You`ll get an email sent to you with an invitation to participate if you`d like. They have interviews they`ve done with past contest winners which I found really helpful to listen to. Most of these guys are just average guys who decided to really give this a go. Many of them had a few challenges along the way (like the one guy who`s girlfriend kept trying to get him to eat cookies, lol) so they continually proved the point that you don`t have to be perfect at this just persistent.

Questions and Answers

I thought I would include some of the questions I had when I first joined as well as a few other I`ve seen newbies post in the forum.

Q: Do you need a gym membership?

A: No, there are a lot of guys who go through the program with their own weights at home. If you`re not able to do the same exercise listed on your program then you can substitute it for a different exercise that works the same muscles.

Q: How long does it take to see some good results?

A: Obviously it will depend a bit on your starting point and the level of effort you put into this but most guys are looking pretty awesome in anywhere from 3-9 months. I`d say a lot of the guys are looking pretty stellar at the 6 month mark.

Q: Is this program newbie friendly?

A: I`d say this program is geared more towards someone who`s worked out at least a little bit. But, if you`re brand new to working out there`s still plenty of help available, just don`t be afraid to ask a question and you`ll get taken care of.

Q: Will I need to take any supplements?

A: They do have some supplements they recommend. However, it`s not required for the program to be effective.

Q: How do training days work?

A: The answer is it`s your choice. Some of the workouts are designed to be 4 days per week, as long as you get all 4 done it doesn`t matter what the pattern is. You could do all 4 in a row (likely not what most people will choose to do). You could do 2 on 1 off 2 on, 3 on 1 off 1 on whatever fits your schedule.

There are other parts of the program that are 5 days per week, and most people either run straight through all 5 days or split it up with a day off in the middle. Again it`s your choice. It`s rather pointless to outline specific days to do each workout as everyones life and schedule is different and I`ve never met anyone who can actually follow a strict `days on vs days off` program without life getting in the way.

Q: Do you have to eat perfectly or can you have cheat days?

A: This was something that came up in some of the contest winner interviews I listened to as well as some of the coaching class. Bottom line, I think everyone has slipped off the wagon a time or two but as long as you keep moving forward, the program works. They recommend not missing out on social events but instead plan ahead. For example, if you know there`s a big social event coming up you could change your diet a bit a few days prior to the social gathering so it won`t affect your progress too much. This system is meant to be something that you can incorporate into you life. Although it will take effort, you don`t have to stop enjoying life to do this

Q: If I travel a lot for work, will this system be do-able?

A: Definitely. There are guys in the forum who are in the same situation. It will just take a little more planning but it definitely can be done and these guys are still getting great results. I would recommend connecting with other people in the forum who are in a similar situation and then can get you up to speed on what`s worked best for them so you can really hit the ground running.
